Hello,
We enjoyed our stay in Croatia which was successful.
The weather was bad only two days, also the wednesday for the flight
form Dubrovnik to Split. some of us used a car and the rest took off
with a severe cross wind of more of 25 knots. Happily the weather
went better at Split and Trogir were we finished our week.
Thanks again for your advices.

_________________________________________________________________ Thomas Kamsker visited LDLO in June ... Hi! _________________________________________________________________ Günter W. Zagel had this objection and negative statemenst about LDPV/LDPN ...
Hello Mr. Maric,
I know Croatia very well. It's a beautiful country but excuse me to
say "bloody expensive" for flying. Some 2 years ago I have been in
Vrsar and paid a fortune on landing fee for a Cessna 172. Also other
pilots who flew to Croatia last year were bitterly complaining about
the tremendous high landing fees.
I'm working in a Shipping Company which employs some 150 seafarers
from Croatia and therefore, I also know their mentality very well.
Too often I found the mentality "how I get rich overnight" and this
is also reflected by the high landing fees. The Owner or leaser of
the airfield Vrsar and Unje is a nice guy but tries to pull the last
cent out of your pocket. He obviously considers all pilots as rich
who do not care about the landing fee. That's wrong! Most pilots can
afford flying only in a Club with rented planes, working hard in the
Club and sharing the costs with other pilots.
These high landing fees reflect the very low frequency of foreign GA
planes. Again, this is typical Croatia - instead promoting "Flying
in Croatia" with low landing fees to increase the yearly number of
landings (and as such the turnover) one finds an excuse to be
"forced" to keep high fees because of the few GA aircrafts landing
at the specific airfield. What reason e.g. Vrsar has to have higher
landing fees than Trst or other Italian airports (I repeat airports
and not airfields!)?
Another reason of high landing fees at least for planes coming from
abroad is the habbit to double or tripple the landing fees for
planes registered in Germany, Austria or Italy. That's a habbit from
former times where foreigners also paid a much higher price for
hotels or ice cream than domestic tourists. Such things happen of
course also in Czech Republic and other ex-East Block countries.
They have beautiful airfields but crazy landing fees - consequence:
no traffic !
Last year I even tried through buziness friends in Rijeka to get a
special deal for landing/handling fees on Island Krk. I wanted to
come with 3 plans and use that airport as the bases for
trips throughout Croatia. But, beside best efforts of my friend
without
success when the airport officials found out that these plans
are registered in Germany. As a consequence, we choose to fly to
Italy - what a pitty.
If Croatia want more buziness, this functions only with attractive
landing fees. In Europe, Germany and France are among the cheapest
with landing fees - from free of charge (!) to an average of € 5.80
for a Cessna 172. Austria between € 6.50/11,--. You can imagine that
landing fees of € 36,-- and more like in Croatia are shocking and
most pilots refrain from flying to that country.
I tried to give you some background of the problems most private
pilots have and why only a very few fly to Croatia. Therefore,
strongly suggest that airports drastically reduce their
landing/handling fees to attract more pilot-tourists to fly to
Croatia.
A good friend of Croatia.
Best Regards,
Günter W. Zagel
After sending him a few explanations about Vrsar, Unije and so on, his reply was the following:
Hallo Herr Maric,
