LOPUD
The second island in the group of Elaphits islands, northwestwrdly from Dubrovnik, only 7,5 NM away. Its surface is 4,63 km and there are 400 inhabitants living there. The coast of the island is 11,5 km long, out of which is 1,2 km of the sand beaches. The beach Sunj is the best known one. There are four ancient croatian churches and twenty-four chapels on this island. Along the coast of the place there is one-kilometre-long walking path where one can see a spacious park Djordjic-Mayneri that today has become an arboretum planted with subtropical vegetation and exotic plants. The inhabitants of the island used to be wide known sailors and shipbuilders. Today their preoccupation is mostly tourism and agriculture.
