Marica Sapro-Ficovic
...more than just a place to stay in Old Town Dubrovnik...

About me

I was born and raised in Dubrovnik. Except for my university studies, I lived here all my life. For a while I was even a city tour guide, so I know the city well. I can direct you to the places of your interest and recommend what to see and where to go.

I love singing and for many years I sang in a classical choir – occasionally I still do. I was always involved in the city’s cultural life; here this is easy.

Culturally, Dubrovnik is a lively city – concerts, a rich Summer festival, exhibits, jazz, folklore, galleries … . I can provide you with the program of activities for the period when you will join us, and even make reservations if desired. Check for the events in Links - there are several sites devoted to Dubrovnik.

Besides Croatian, I speak fluently English, and can also speak Italian and French.

Professionally, I am a librarian at the Dubrovnik Scientific and Public Library. It is near by. You can visit and use the library. We have a good collection for all ages, and a research collection, which includes rare books. We also provide Internet access for our patrons – I can take you there. (But you can also find other Internet cafes near by). My position is Regional Librarian. I cover public and school libraries spread out all over the district. They are in many towns and villages on the mainland and on the islands. Some are quite remote and in beautiful places. Occasionally, I visit them all, thus, I am well acquainted with the whole region. If interested, I can tell you about some of the more remarkable places and how to go about visiting them.

I am also involved in a popular annual professional event in Dubrovnik. Since the start of the annual international conference Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) in 2000, I am the Chair of the local Organizing Committee. The general aim is "to address the changing and challenging environment for libraries and information systems and services in the digital world." LIDA is attracting an international audience: this and last year participants came from some 20 countries. It is great fun to meet collegues from all over.

Here are some of my favorites:

  •  favorite walk: Saint-Jacob,  walking area east of  hotel Argentina
  • favorite cafe: Trubadur, has nice outdoor space on an old plaza, and intriguing indoors ; jazz late in the evening; open very, very late
  • favorite swimming: Lokrum, the nearby island
  • favorite song: well, that depends on the mood…

We will try to make your stay as pleasant as possible and involve you in Dubrovnik life, as much or as little as you wish.

You are most welcome!

Marica
